Dordogne, France - Destination for a Golfing Break and Family Holiday
An avid golfer likes nothing more than taking his or her favourite sport overseas for a golfing break. There are hundreds of destinations worldwide available to the UK golfer. The USA for instance has numerous world class courses and the hospitality is second to none. However, it can be a little far for a short break. Ireland is much closer to home, but if you are looking to escape to slightly warmer climates, it may not be for you. France may be the answer to your golfing break prayers. Close to home, with better weather, un-crowded golf courses and all the baguettes you can shake a golf club at.
For the UK golfer, there are numerous affordable ways to hop over to France. With hundreds of departures every day, you can got either by plane, train or boat.
The Dordogne region in South West France is an ideal location for a golfing break. Reachable by car in under 10 hours and the area is served by Toulouse, Bergerac and Limoges airports, all of which are within an hour and a half transfer.
The Dordogne region has numerous quality courses including the exceptional course at the Souillac Golf and Country Club, Golf d’Aubazine and Golf de Porcelain de Limoges.
The Souillac Golf and Country Club features a driving range, putting green and clubhouse with restaurant and bar which sits alongside the tree lined, 18 hole, par 67 course.
The course is very forgiving yet still has plenty of bunkers and other hazards to test even the most seasoned pros.
It is important on a golfing break that there are other activities in the area to keep you and the family amused when off the course and the Dordogne region has a wealth of activities to keep you occupied when off the golf course such as walking, cycling, fishing, canoeing, water skiing and the number 1 thing to do while in France, drinking wine and eating cheese.
Rugby fans will be in their element as Toulouse is a hotbed for rugby union during the September to April season.
Getting away from the British weather is one of the key reasons golfers play abroad and the Dordogne has great golfing weather, enjoying warm dry summers and mild winters.
